La relation aidant/aide chez les personnes souffrant d'Alzheimer à domicile

Abstract : Objective: Currently, the French population is aging, increasing the number of people affected by Alzheimer's disease. Moreover, people want to stay at home as long as possible. As a result, most often the spouse becomes the main caregiver. In order to guarantee the care at home, therapies and programs are used. Here we focus on the COTID program. Thus, the objective of this dissertation was to define the impact of the COTID program, used by occupational therapists, on the caregiver/care receiver relationship. Method: A qualitative study with questionnaires was chosen. These questionnaires were intended for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease at home who use or do not use the COTID program. I wanted to compare the data from the two groups. Results: Occupational therapy has an impact from the beginning of the disease on engagement in activities, to slow down memory problems and improve the relationship. In the COTID group, we noticed an improvement in the quality of life and an impact on the relationship thanks to the occupational therapist's interventions, which were greater than in the group not using the COTID program. Discussion: The answers to my questionnaires showed that the COTID program is not used enough. The program allows for better supervision and follow-up of caregivers and care receivers. In addition, soliciting more outside help could also improve the quality of life of caregivers.
