Étude préliminaire évaluant la faisabilité et l'acceptabilité d'un programme de prise en charge psychologique de l'insatisfaction corporelle dans les troubles des conduites alimentaires

Abstract : Eating disorders (ED) can be considered as a major public health problem. Despite these pathologies’ common occurrence, they still remain an unresolved problem due to insufficiently efficient treatments. Several studies highlight common psychopathological processes between each type of ED, such as worrying excessively about weight, shape or diet and trying to control them, thus dimensional interventions can be developed. Body dissatisfaction appears to be a key transdiagnostic concept since it is a factor of development, maintenance and relapse of ED. Objective: assess the feasibility and acceptability of a psychotherapy group focused on body dissatisfaction in patients with ED, and based on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Method: this is an interventional, prospective, uncontrolled, open-label study. The outcome measures were the participation rate for the sessions, reflecting the feasibility of the intervention, and the assessment of the satisfaction level of the group by the patients in order to determine the acceptability of the intervention. Results: 18 patients were recruited for this study. The percentage of sessions completed by the entire workforce averages 68,09%. On average, all patients considered themselves as “somewhat” to “very satisfied” with the group which corresponds to a score of 4 to 5 over 5. Regarding the secondary endpoints, even if no improvement was found on the level of body dissatisfaction, there was a statistically significant improvement in the total score of EDI-2 and EDE-Q. Conclusion: the qualitative and quantitative results suggest that this type of group, in addition to the usual treatment, is feasible and well accepted by patients. The clinical improvements observed are encouraging in terms of safety and call for a controlled study to confirm our findings.
