Vécu du confinement par les patients diabétiques type 2 à La Réunion

Abstract : Background : Containment in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic was an unprecedented situation leading to a change in the behavior of doctors and patients in the monitoring of diabetes. In Réunion, T2D (Type 2 Diabete) is frequent and requires rigorous monitoring. The objective of this study was to explore the experience of confinement by type 2 diabetic patients in Réunion. Method : An interpretative phenomenological analysis was carried out from semi-structured individual interviews of T2D patients from Réunion, recruited by their attending physician. Results : 11 interviews were carried out. The psychological impact was significant with a lot of anxiety, and fear related to the virus that could lead to death, aggravated by media toxicity. A sense of vulnerability linked to diabetes emerged. The confinement was reassuring but with many constraints. The socio-family breakdown has deepened the distress and isolation among the elderly, in addition to a digital divide. This tool has helped the continuity of care in a context of disruption of medical information. There has been a change in lifestyle with an increase in sedentary lifestyle and nutritional fragility. A positive personality and a rural habitat have allowed a better resilience. Finally, deconfinement was divided between relief and fear of a pessimistic health development. Conclusion: The T2D patients in Reunion have been strongly impacted psychologically by the confinement linked to Covid-19 and diabetes control has been weakened.
