Les troubles du neurodéveloppement de l’enfant de 0 à 7 ans : description et évaluation d’un dispositif de formation pour les internes de médecine générale

Abstract : Introduction: the management of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) in children from 0 to 7 years old is difficult. The identification of warning signs, the guidance of these children and communication with the family require training courses for general practitioners early on in their studies. Objective: this thesis aims to describe and assess the implementation of a training course for general practice residents on how to carry out a consultation for early screening of NDD from 0 to 7 years old. Methods: ten residents at all stages in their studies of general practice followed a three-hour course with a specialist of NDD. Their level of knowledge before and after training was measured through a pre- and post-test questionnaire with eighteen questions. The opinion of residents about the quality of the training was collected with a satisfaction survey. Results: there was a significant increase in knowledge about NDD. The average score on the post-test questionnaire is two points better than the pre-test questionnaire with mostly selective questions. The global rate of satisfaction from the residents was good, with an average score of 12.3 out of 16 and the training course was felt to be useful and interactive. Some participants would have preferred more practice-based workshops of know-how and interpersonal skills. Moreover, most of the residents didn’t feel comfortable with the idea of doing an efficient consultation of early screening right after the course. Discussion: despite the small sample size, the results of the post-test questionnaire, the motivation among participants and the global satisfaction with this training course show the value of such a course. The project to extend this training course to a greater number of residents requires their understanding of the central role of the general practitioner in the identification of NDD.
