L’accompagnement de l’aidant familial : la spécificité de la relation entre l’ergothérapeute et le proche

Abstract : Introduction: The occupational therapist may be interested in the family caregiver during the patient’s care because he is part of the patient’s environment and can therefore influence his abilities. The perception of the relationship and the collaboration of the family caregiver with the occupational therapist can influence the care. The aim of this study was to highlight the specificity of the relation between the family caregiver and the occupational therapist. Methods: A questionnaire was created and sent to family caregivers who had met an occupational therapist for and/or with their dependent family member. Results: The data brought new elements to the literature. The interest of occupational therapy was known by the participants. The positioning and the approach were seen as good things for the evolution of the care. However, negative aspects were raised in a particular context. Conclusion: The occupational therapist helps the family caregiver to ensure his role with his dependent family member. The relationship, from its beginning to its evolution during the interventions, promotes the collaboration and meets the family caregiver’s expectations for his family member.
