Taux de pénétration des biosimilaires en France: exemple du trastuzumab

Abstract : A target of 80% penetration of biosimilars by 2022 has been set in the government plan called "Ma Santé 2022". This ambitious objective presupposes the construction of an economic and legal environment favorable to the successful penetration of biosimilars. This legal framework and the public policies in favor of biosimilars were presented. Penetration rates and savings over the period 2011-2020 were also determined. In addition, this work identified the obstacles to the development of biosimilars, particularly in the case of trastuzumab, a molecule for which only biosimilars of the Intravenous (IV) formulation are available. Indeed, the market for the originator drug (Herceptin®), which is available in Subcutaneous (SC) form, limits the optimal penetration of IV biosimilars. Although more expensive, the SC strategy is less invasive and the injection time is shorter (5 minutes instead of 30-90 minutes), making it more comfortable for patients and caregivers. In addition, the possibility of home hospitalization with SC injection, allows to limit the costs while favoring the comfort of the patient's care.
