Optimisation de la lutte biologique contre Aphis gossypii sur cucurbitacées à Mayotte par l’utilisation des plantes relais

Abstract : Aphis gossypii is a polyphagous aphid that attacks cucumber. To control this aphid, banker plants can be used near the cucumber crop to avoid use of pesticides. This technique is based on the use of a non-crop plant attracting an alternative host. This alternative host attracts natural enemies of Aphis gossypii (predators and parasitoids). The feasibility of this technique was tested in this study in the context of agriculture in Mayotte between April and August 2021. Thus, corn was used as a banker plant near a cucumber greenhouse. Several technical difficulties were observed, because corn is not cultivated at this season in Mayotte. Moreover, no natural infestation of the alternative host Rhopalosiphum maidis was observed during the study. Thus, it is not possible to conclude on the feasibility and efficiency of this technique in Mayotte.
