Rôle du chirurgien-dentiste dans la prise en charge du syndrome d’apnées-hypopnées obstructives du sommeil (SAHOS) chez l’enfant

Abstract : Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS) in children is a sleep-disordered breathing disorder defined by repeated episodes of complete (apnea) or partial (hypopnea) obstruction of the upper airway (UAV), which disrupts ventilation and affects sleep. The most common cause in children is enlarged tonsils and/or vegetations. However, other factors may be involved such as obesity or craniofacial anomalies. In order to treat this condition rapidly, a diagnosis as early as possible is necessary. Clinical signs, questionnaires, physical examination and ENT examination are essential but do not allow a diagnosis of OSA to be made with certainty, which will be determined by recording breathing during sleep. The different therapeutic modalities to be implemented will have to be coordinated according to the severity of the case but also to the age of the patient. Without treatment, OSAH induces important physiological, psychological and behavioral consequences.
