Impact du 1er confinement (17 mars 2020-10 mai 2020) lié à l’épidémie de Covid 19 sur l’équilibre glycémique des patients diabétiques de type 2 en Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Abstract : Introduction: on March,17, 2020, France imposed a nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of the SARSCov- 2 epidemic. Travel was restricted to a few compelling reasons. It is believe that this lockdown may have impacted the glycaemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Our main objective is to study the effect of lockdown on the HbA1c in patients with diabetes type 2 in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Method: patients with type 2 diabetes legal age from four medical practices in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region were included using a common medical software. These patients had to have performed at least two HbA1c over the period from November 1, 2019 to October 31, 2020 included. We compared HbA1c values before and after containment (17 March 2020 to 10 May 2020). Results: the research has analysed data from 453 patients with type 2 diabetes. 250 men (55.2%) and 203 women (44.8%) with a median age of 70 years. No significant change in HbA1c following confinement (-0.04 on average, p=0.21) for the overall population (453 patients) and also by gender were found. On average, -0.04% decrease in HbA1c in women (p=0.99), -0.08% in men on average (p=0.11). Furtheremore, no significant change in HbA1c by age group. The HbA1c of patients under 50 years of age decreased by -0.45% on average, -0.03% on average for the 50-64 year old category, -0.04% on average for the 65-79 year old category and -0.01% on average for the over 80 year old category (with p respectively at 0.28, 0.76, 0.34 and p=0.86) In rural and urban areas, there was a non-significant mean decrease in HbA1c of 0.04% and 0.06% respectively (p=0.27 and p=0.53). Conclusion: it can be concluded that confinement did not significantly impact the HbA1c in patient with type 2 diabetes in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Further studies are needed to assess the impact of other confinements.
