Représentations liées aux mesures alimentaires et d’hygiène de vie dans le cadre du diabète gestationnel au sein d’une population cible d’origine réunionnaise

Abstract : Background : Gestational diabetes, like acquired diabetes, is a real public health problem. Awareness by the public authorities is real, but the approach seems too vertical and very often misunderstood by the population concerned, in particular with regard to measures related to diet and hygiene of life. The purpose of this study aims to explore the representations and knowledge related to these measures within a target population and to understand their possible links with their living environment. The idea is to define a more flexible and coherent model in order to improve the management of this disease. Method : Qualitative study based on an inductive approach, the data collection being established from semi-structured individual interviews (20 in total) carried out in a target population of Reunionese patients suffering from gestational diabetes. Results : Gestational diabetes is above all experienced as a real emotional trauma by the patient. It also constitutes a sudden change in his relationship to "food" and "food behavior" as well as to his way of life. Their environment (socio-economic, family, and cultural) considerably impacts their behavior related to these measures, both positively (levers) and negatively (brakes). The role of the caregiver is decisive in helping to understand the pathological phenomena linked to the disease, to accept it and to its proper follow-up. Conclusion : The idea of a horizontal, participatory care model, promoting patient-caregiver interactions, centered on both care and education is possible when we take into account the representations and experiences of each. Medical practitioner, related to his competence as a caregiver,
