Multiculturalism and Britishness from women's perspective in Monica Ali's Brick Lane and Zadie Smith's Swing Time

Le multiculturalisme et la britannicité dans les romans Brick Lane de Monica Ali et Swing Time de Zadie Smith, regards féminins

Résumé

This study shows the experience of London's multiculturalism for women and how it is a key factor in the construction of one's identity and cultural and personal emancipation. It explores the limits of multiculturalism and the acceptance of the "other" and demonstrates that the stereotypes used by the authors can both represent a burden and an opportunity for the women protagonists to emancipate while trying to find a balance between preserving their culture of origin and adapting to their host country.
