D'eau, de roche et de lumière : contribution à une étude des pratiques de descente de canyon. Massif des Pyrénées (France et Espagne) Montagnes Rocheuses (USA)

Abstract : Sun, Water and Rock: A Study on the Practice of Canyoneering. Pyrenees (France and Spain) and Rocky Mountains (USA).
Hybrid activity of trekking, climbing, caving and hydrospeed, canyoneering consists of the descent by foot and by swimming in an enclosed river which is called a canyon. From an interdisciplinary standpoint, this study concerns the practice of canyoneering. A first part exposes some elements in geo-history of the activity. One second part presents the results of an inquiry into socio-demographic and socio-cultural aspects of canyoneering in the French department of Pyrénées-Orientales and a third part exposes the emergent trends of the activity in the Pyrenees (France and Spain) and in the Rocky Mountains (USA).
