Étude du comportement mécanique d'un coussin d'assise en nid d'abeille pour fauteuil roulant

Abstract : The search for a comfortable seated position has always existed, as remaining seated for too long is responsible for many pathologies. The most common of these skin pathologies is certainly the pressure ulcers, which are caused by stresses applied between the ischial tuberosities and soft tissues at the buttocks-seat interface. Both intrinsic and extrinsic factors, such as pressure, shear, friction and microclimate, are generally considered as responsible for the pressure ulcers. Special-purpose cushions have been developed to the aim of decreasing pressure effects, especially for disabled people seated on a wheelchair. An innovative honeycomb-shaped cushion made of Polyurethane Thermoplastic (TPU) has been investigated in this work, using a human buttocks biomechanical model. In order to study its mechanical behaviour, two methods have been used : - numerical simulation based on the Finite Elements Method (FEM), making it possible to characterize the honeycomb structure mechanical behaviour - thermography to measure the temperature distribution inside the cushion. These methods have proved their utility in the optimization of the cushion design.
