Annonce de trisomie 21 à la naissance : formulation, conséquences et accompagnement

Abstract : Backgroud and Objective : Down Syndrom is the most frequent diagnosis due to chromosomic abnormality which is annouced at birth. There are many different phenotypes for this disability. Although medical screening evolved a lot through the last decades, there is still a possibility to diagnose Down Syndrom after birth. This purpose of this study was to observe the way that the announcement is made and how those patients are cared for during postpartum. Methods : We conducted a qualitative study based on semi-directives interviews. Fourteen interviews were done over seven months. We interviewed five mothers, one couple and eight doctors. Results and conclusion : This study showed that, even if some points may still be improved, they are some established knowledge for the medical staff about the way the announcement is supposed to happen. Moreover, our work raised some questions about the accuracy of the information given about the medical screening and the medical training.
