L'infécondité en France : et si on écoutait les hommes ?

Abstract : Introduction: Estimates of the prevalence of infertility range from 3,6 to 14,3%, and prevalence of medical consultation from 3,6 to 17,0%. Few data were collected from men. The objective of this work is to compare the statements of men and women on the medical consultation for infertility, based on survey FECOND, in general population. Methodology: The study population aged 20-49 years including 4629 women and 2863 men (n=7492). Analyzes were conducted in population exposed to infertility, i.e. ever tried to have a pregnancy and therefore at risk of having a period of infertility (n = 4438, 3048 women, 1390 men). Bivariate analyzes are comparing distributions or averages by gender of the respondent. Results: Infertility consultation rate was 15.8% for women and 10.9% for men aged 20-49 years (p<0.05). This rate was 23.8% and 20.7% for women and men exposed to infertility (p <0.05). The treatment rate is 8.8% for women and 6.1% for men 20 to 49 years (p <0.05). This rate is 13.2% and 11.5% for women and men exposed to infertility. Statements of women and men are consistent on several aspects of their care. Among the differences, men report more often examinations, especially those involving them. Conclusion: Men are less concerned than women infertility because they are less exposed. Once controlled the exposure factor, the statements of women and men are consistent throughout and sometimes complementary, showing interest to interview men in infertility survey.
