La problématique du suicide chez les amérindiens de la commune de Camopi entre 2008 et 2015

Abstract : Introduction : in 2013 in French Guiana, 6 among teenagers aged between 13 and 8 years within the American Indian community of Camopi were reported. This study aims to describe this epidemic and identify factors associated with suicide attempt. Method : a retrospective observational study was conducted. Results : during the study period, the annual suicide rate was higher in the last three years. In 2015, this rate was equal to 296 for 100000 inhabitants, which is more than 18 fold of the suicide rate in mainland France. The 10-20 years age group gathered 70% of suicide deaths and there was no significant difference between genders. The interpersonal conflict was the main stressful life event reported by respondents (52%), without taking into account bereavements in close circle. Alcohol addiction (30% of respondents) was associated with suicide attempts under the influence of alcohol (p=0.03). Conclusion : Suggested answers have been raised in a response plan that should be conducted by the American Indian community with an organisation : Cellule pour le Mieux-être des Populations de l’Intérieur.
