Intérêt de la cryothérapie dans la polyarthrite rhumatoïde

Abstract : Local and whole body cryotherapy are empirically used in rheumatoid arthritis, while publications are increasing these last years. The aim of this review is to determine if different forms of cryotherapy has, according to literature data, an interest in this pathology. Biologically, results are different about inflammatory cytokines, ESR, hormones like cortisol or β-endorphin. They are encouraging about norepinephrine, antioxidant status, and slow downing intraarticular metabolism, even if these modifications and their clinical incidence should be determined. Clinically, outcomes like DAS28, VAS and quality of life scores seem improved. In conclusion, local and / or whole body cryotherapy are an attractive adjuvant therapy, although randomized controlled trials are needed to determine their places in rheumatoid arthritis care.
