Transmission verticale de la maladie carieuse : étude qualitative menée auprès des professionnels de santé de la petite enfance

Abstract : Numerous studies have been done on dental recommendations for early childhood professionals by the team of pediatric odontology at the University of Bordeaux to assess the knowledge of early childhood professionals. The objectives of this study were to collect information on the vertical transmission of early childhood caries. We created an open-ended survey and contacted six categories of early childhood professionals who are dental surgeons, doctors, pediatricians, nurses, midwives, and pediatric nurses to interview them for 20 minutes. Indeed, all these professionals are in close relationship with the mother and her child, from pregnancy to delivery and well after. It was important to ask them specific questions about the transmission of the carious disease but also to let them speak on the subject in order to gather as much information as possible. This is indeed the goal of a qualitative study. All data was collected in tabular form. It was very interesting to note that there are still many paradoxes in the way of thinking of certain professionals and that it is important now to spread the right information in order to optimize the care that must be multidisciplinary for effective prevention against the transmission of CPE
