Analyse des besoins en soins aigus somatiques des patients hospitalisés en centre hospitalier spécialisé psychiatrique

Abstract : Introduction: Patients with severe mental illness have a reduced life expectancy compared with the general population. This can be explained by an excess somatic comorbidity, the management of which constitutes a major public health problem, particularly in acute cases. Objective : Qualitative study from January to December 2017 including the inpatients of the psychiatric hospital of BASSENS with an organic pathology requiring a call to the dispatching center of the SAMU73. Data were extracted from the dispatching and the hospital medical records. Résults : 69 calls were included. Infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases and medication side-effects represented 60% of the reason to call the emergency medical service. 45% of the calls gave rise to a consultation in the emergency department, and 22% to an intervention of a prehospital medical emergency team. Forty-six percent of the patients were hospitalized in a somatic ward, including critical care unit in 25% of the cases. Conclusion: Patients with severe mental illness frequently have somatic health problems and the consequences can be more serious than for the general population. There is a need to improve their management by all the caregivers in order to reduce the comorbidities and may be extend their lifespan.
