Utilisation clinique des ciments verres ionomères de haute viscosité imprégnés et protégés

Abstract : Currently, composite resins are fluently used as a direct restorative material due to their aesthetic advantages and good clinical performance. Glass Ionomer Cements (GIC), developed in the 1970s, have long been considered interesting but insufficient materials. They offer different advantages: intrinsic adhesion to dental tissues (no need for adhesive), release of Fluoride (bacteriostatic action), relative tolerance to moisture, fast and much less demanding implementation, ... High Viscosity GIC (HV-GIC), developed in the 1990s, allowed to extend the applications of these materials by improving their mechanical properties. So, the HV-GIV represent, in restorative dentistry, a serious therapeutic alternative to composites in different “hard” situations, when the composites are not indicated (high caries risk, difficult isolation, reduced working time in patients with little cooperation, lack of cervical enamel) but also in pediatric dentistry and humanitarian dentistry (ART). The light-curing resin coating also allows to improving their mechanical properties by protecting them during their maturation phase which is a critical phase. This material has a large number of qualities but also defects. Its biggest defect remains its low resistance to bending which explains the fractures that can be observed especially at the proximal contacts when the indications are poorly respected. This material offers excellent clinical results in the medium term especially in the case of cavities where it will work mainly in compression and not in flexion like class I or limited class II cavities. EQUIA Forte further raises the level of HV-GIC.
