Réhabilitation orthophonique des personnes vivant avec une Sclérose en Plaques et présentant des troubles cognitivolinguistiques légers à modérés : un premier état des lieux des pratiques en Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Abstract : Among people living with multiple sclerosis (MS), 40 to 70% are affected by cognitive-linguistic disorders. These disorders are generally mild to moderate in nature and have an impact on communication in various situations of daily life and therefore on the quality of life of people with MS. In the absence of significantly effective drug treatments, the rehabilitation of cognitive-linguistic disorders is an essential part of the management of people with MS. The aim of this study is to carry out an initial assessment of the practices, needs and expectations of speech therapists practicing in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in the context of the management of people with mild to moderate cognitive-linguistic disorders. 72 speech-language pathologists completed an online questionnaire, 51 of whom had already followed at least one patient with mild to moderate cognitive-linguistic disorders. The results showed differences between the reality of current clinical practice and the scientific recommendations for rehabilitation modalities based on Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). They also underlined expectations and needs in terms of information and training on rehabilitation as well as on the processes reached to be rehabilitated, in terms of material and tools for evaluation and rehabilitation. This first inventory of speech and language therapy practices in Nouvelle- Aquitaine highlights the need to train and inform speech and language therapists about this type of rehabilitation, and to carry out studies that take into account the reality of practices. This work opens perspectives on the implementation of EBP data while considering the current French legal and administrative framework.
