Logiques nationales, internationales et identitaires : une histoire du pacifisme du Bureau International de la Paix dans l'entre-deux guerres

Abstract : By the prism of the International Peace Bureau (I.P.B.), the international organization established in 1891 and the first mission of which is the organization of the Universal Peace Congresses, this study aims at studying the national and international pacifist logics in the interwar.
In perpetual research for financing, the Bureau develops a propaganda policy aiming as well at spreading the message of the peace that to attract the financing. The national pacifist tissue goes out weakened by the First World war and the Bureau tends to autonomiser its activities. It directs then its attention to virgin territories, the Balkans, and tries to create a pacifist dynamics, the beginnings of which are the Balkan Conferences. However, with the of the tensions in the thirties, the Bureau sees its actions restricted gradually.
In front of the emergence of new actors, the I.P.B. toughens its political propositions to differ but meets only few echos. Support criticizes of the S.D.N., the hopes that it places in it are disappointed because of a too big laxness. Jealous of an autonomy won on the national societies of the peace, the Bureau sees in the creation of the Rassemblement Universel pour la Paix, the arrival of a competitor and tries then to get closer again to national companies societies, vain efforts.
Leaning on an armada of communicationnal tools, the Bureau tries to advance its identity to, at first, claim its autonomy then to join the national societies. However, this flight forward in identical promotion seems to show of a real crisis of its own identity, and can be also, of that more global of the pacifism in the interwar period.
