Rôle du pharmacien d'officine lors de la dispensation des médicaments en EHPAD

Abstract : In the context of polypathology and polymedication related to the rise in dependency of the elderly, the Etablissements d'Hébergement pour Personnes Agées et Dépendantes (EHPAD) were created to face the crucial question of the medicalisation of retirement homes. The EHPAD, in the same way as Sanitary Establishments, have to guarantee a secure medicinal treatment of their residents while respecting a measured budget. The pharmacist who can either be a pharmacist referent or a pharmacist provider has the responsibility to offer a reliable dispensation of medicines from an exterior perspective. This requires the preparation of doses to administer (PDA), a risky practice because of the repackaging of the medication and the legal risks involved in this process. The individual packaging of medicines could offer a solution to the hazards of the PDA but the industry has not fully developed this process yet. Despite these difficulties, the pharmacist, as a local healthcare professional, has to do the utmost to provide the EHPAD residents and its healthcare team with the knowledge and the advice necessary to offer a secure medicinal treatment.
