L'arbre en ville : le paysagiste concepteur face aux contraintes du projet urbain

Abstract : The tree is in many ways an essential part of urban landscape, but the city represents also a restrictive space for plants. From this assessment this study deals with the aim of the landscape designer in planting spaces design. At first the particular context of the urban tree is described. It enhances the urban environment particularities and the progress in practices and laws in arboriculture. Then the tree selection according to the site is defined to show that each tree has a different impact in the project. So the cohabitation with men and human activities requires specific technical realizations: planting sand, protections, adapted trimming... Finally the tree is analyzed in a different way to bring up the different protagonists in the urban project and different methods of conception. Thereby the tree field has a real professional network wherein is working the landscape designer. It has an important role in promoting and representing the tree in city planning. Researches andp ublications point up the current concerns about urban tree, in order to improve (growing) conditions of the tree in the city. "Future trees" will enable cities to perpetuate their arboricultural heritage.
