Droits de l'Homme en Français Langue Seconde : conflits et dissonances d'une classe d'élèves au Maroc

Abstract : Our work fits into the broader study of languages and cultural didactics. This Action-Research project combines a pedagogical project on Human Rights and an investigation of the representation of Human Rights principles with a class of grade 11 students in Morocco. Its purpose is to explore differences and conflicts in those individuals whose identity is emerging from three distinct cultural environments: Moroccan, American, and the Global community. We designed activities, initiated debates, and conducted individual interviews to understand how students express these contradictions. Further, we explored the strategies that these individuals were using to overcome such conflicts. The theoretical framework of this project is related to inter-cultural understanding, critical-cultural awareness, diversity and Othering. The results of this study may prove useful to teachers who would like to implement the topic of Human Rights in their instruction with Second or Third Language learners. It could be used to inform a teacher's didactic approach with such learners or it could be informative in the teaching of identity and socialization with any group of students.
