L'effet de surprise dans un projet de paysage. Approche méthodologique

Abstract : We find 'surprising situations' in all areas of life. They have an impact on our reaction and well-being and they can affect us positively or negatively. This report investigates the unexpected situations in the design of outdoor spaces and landscape architecture projects. It raises the question, what methods can we use to create such unexpected situations. This is because surprising situations allow people to experience their environment more intensive and interesting ways. It is assumed that to produce a 'surprising situation', normality must first be determined. In a literature review is clarified what factors affect humans normality, or, in short, what the "normality" means for people. Based on the results of the research, the report explains methods of how we can create positive 'surprising situations', by using techniques of landscape architecture. These methods are partly based on, the redesign of a park in Saint Médard en Jalles, on the other hand they are fictional and conceptual techniques that can be used for future projects. This work provides insight into the possibilities to create surprising situations in open space planning and presents the scientific background knowledge to their occurrence. It serves as a basis for further consideration to integrate such surprising situations into a project. The integration of such situations on to landscape designs is shown to increase the attractiveness of parks for the park visitors.
