Apprentissage de l'orthographe lexicale chez des adolescents

Abstract : The aim of this study is to investigate the acquisition of new orthographic word forms among students attending the French "classe de Première" (2 years before entering university). They were assessed on their cognitive and linguistic skills prior to the beginning of the study. We were concerned, first with implicit and then explicit learning. Two issues were considered: on the one hand, individual language or cognitive abilities facilitating or hindering the learning process and, on the other, the factors that make it difficult to memorize and retrieve new words. Results highlight the complementarity of these two learning strategies and show that performance is related to the quality of orthographic lexicon but also varies with infra-lexical and lexical characteristics of the linguistic material studied.
