La généalogie allemande de l'esthétique musicale de Nietzsche

Abstract : This study comes from a basic interrogation: "What is the music?" Most of the musicians or audience have already wondered about this question. Considering such a large question, we will need help of musical theory. Which one? We have decided to select Nietzsche's work because of its central place in ideas history and of the special relationship that Nietzsche has with music; yes, Nietzsche was not only a philosopher, he was also a musician. From then on, we need a method to understand Nietzsche's thought: we have to show where these theses are coming from. So this study shows the relationship between the different aesthetics of the German XIXth century. From the transcendantale aesthetic of Kant to the music physiology of Nietzsche through the romantic aesthetics and the formalism, we want to establish theoretical links in order to show the coherence of the aesthetics ideas of the XIXth century. It will allow us to see as well the philosophical origin of aesthetics in Nietzsche's vision. If this study restricts to establish family ties between the theories, it is because we want to use a genealogist method, like Nietzsche himself used. The stake is to study the texts themselves to precisely understand the physiology of music and perhaps to give posterity to the Nietzsche's concepts by thinking contemporary music.
