Géographie de l'adoption internationale : analyse spatiale de la structure interne des réseaux d'adoption en France

Abstract : The intercountry adoption is a demographic phenomenon that has evolved since the eighties in France. Its positive development is connected with different events which happened in the countries of origin. The 1993 Hague Adoption Convention offers new prospects and allows an international regulation of adoption. Furthermore, France has changed and improved his own organizational system. In such a case, with this reorganization, new elements have appeared and social networks have emerged. The mismatch of the adoption system is manifest. To understand this phenomenon, it is significant to conceptualize adoption as a system made up of different elements which interact between each other. Some entities lie at the very heart of the system like accredited bodies (OAA). The French Agency for Adoption (AFA), recently created, has trouble to find a place. But the disproportion is effective in all other levels. This is why it is important to understand why some of the networks are privileged. The spatial analysis helps us to establish that choices are dependent on the phenomenon of proximity. The adoptive and adopted profiles are to take into account because some of them have advantages and priorities that others do not have. These multiple decisive factors affect the structure of international adoption in France. This master's thesis presents first the adoption context, including evolution, legislative aspect and the introduction of the main entities which take part in the process Then it shows the sociological aspect and the different concepts that surround this subject, to built adoptive and adopted typologies making possible a regionalization of the different behaviors. Besides, this work underlines the importance of the socio-spatial disparities in the French adoption system. Finally, the analysis shows that the proximity of accredited bodies is decisive to the French organization.
