Quand la vie naissante se raconte : la mise en récit de l'accouchement : un rite de passage

Abstract : Women often talk about their delivery with other women. This story-telling appears to be a rite of passage according to the scheme described by Arnold Van Gennep. This allows the woman to make her social status change. Through semi-structured interviews, we demonstrated that women build their discourse around social norms, which validates childbirth in the eyes of society. Furthermore, the midwife holds a symbolic function in the reception of this story. She passively witnesses, as a mediator. It seems necessary to give mothers the opportunity to talk so they can complete the psychosocial process of reaching motherhood.
