Victimes d'inceste en maternité. État des lieux de la connaissance et des pratiques des sages-femmes

Abstract : Incest victims in maternity: knowledge and practices of midwives. Up to 3% of the French population are victims of incest. This trauma can lead to serious consequences for women, especially during pregnancy and motherhood. Our objective is to evaluate the knowledge, the professional practice and the feeling of midwives regarding incest. It has been done to define their training needs so that female victims can benefit from suitable follow up. The study is qualitative; 93 midwives, working in maternity wards, independently or in mother and child welfare centers, completed our questionnaire. Midwives interviewed are insufficiently informed about incest and have low screening capability to detect violence. In general, patient care exists but it is not the result of a team's thoughts. Incest is still a difficult subject to broach. It is therefore essential to develop adequate training for perinatal professionals regarding incest. In order to enhance this training, further medical research on the subject of sexual violence must also be made.
