Jeûne hydrique en salle de naissance. Vers de nouvelles pratiques ?

Abstract : Introduced in 1946, maternal restriction of fluids in labour has long been the rule in the delivery room. Today, improvements in anaesthesia practices led scientific societies to authorize intake of liquids with weak adverse effects. This dissertation aims to examine the situation in our delivery rooms and reveal attitudes and behaviours among midwives on this subject . All midwives working in delivery rooms in the six maternity hospitals of the "Est Parisien" network were surveyed in the course of this study. It seems there has been an evolution since a large majority of midwives allows their patients to drink. However, a vast diversity of practices and a certain lack of awareness have been reported. Finally, the last part of this work puts forward a list of measures to speed up changes in practices regarding hydration in the delivery room.
