Évaluation de l'efficacité du ballon de Bakri dans la prise en charge de l'hémorragie du post-partum à l'hôpital de la Pitié-Salpêtrière (2008-2012)

Abstract : Postpartum haemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal death in France. A few maternity hospitals have introduced the Bakri balloon, an intra-uterine device applied after the failure of sulprostone, as a new means against the postpartum haemorrhage, next to embolization and surgery. In order to measure the efficiency of the Bakri balloon and the evolution of the rate of recourse to embolization, surgery and transfusion since its implementation, we have lead a "beforeafter" investigation, from 2008 to 2012, on 360 patients of the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital. Its results reveal that the Bakri Balloon is related to a significant decrease of the rate of embolization, without delaying it when it is recommended. There was no change observed in the rate of haemostasis surgery and transfusion. The Bakri Balloon obtained here a 78% success rate. A randomized, multicentre study, would allow obtaining results of a greater level of scientific evidence.
