Contribution au développement d'un indicateur de la nutrition soufrée et de fertilisants innovants chez le blé tendre d'hiver (Triticum aestivum L.)

Abstract : As part of the management and optimization of sulfur fertilization of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum), a study was conducted through the identification of potential indicators of sulfur deficiency and the search for new algal extracts enable to optimize sulfur nutrition. On the one hand, sulfur deficiency of 35 days under controlled conditions was applied in wheat in order to study the effects of S-deficiency on biomass, nitrate reductase activity, and plant content of chlorophyll, S, N, SO42-, NO3-, Cl- and PO43-. Compared to plants that received sulfur nutrition, the results show, the early days of the deficiency, a sharp decrease in sulfate concentrations in the leaves and an increase in nitrate content at the same time. Nitrate reductase activity is also variable between deficient and control plants. After 16 days of deficiency, foliar concentrations of N, S and leaf / root ratio decreased compared to controls. Examination of these results also suggests that the NO3-/ SO42- ratio prove to be an early and reliable indicator of sulfur deficiency. On the other hand, a screening of three algal extracts (Ulva spp, Undaria digitata and Laminaria pinnatifida) was performed to test their ability to induce an improvement of sulfur nutrition in wheat. Results show an increase in sulfur uptake and assimilation 24 h after the application of the seaweed extract Ulva spp., at a concentration of 140 mg L-1 in the hydroponic solution.
