Essais cliniques et prise en charge du cancer‎ : l'exemple du mélanome cutané

Abstract : Cancer is the main cause of death in France. Among them, cutaneous melanoma is a particularly aggressive cancer when it is diagnosed at an advanced stage. Until recently, treatments available in its management have shown a moderate efficacy and poor tolerability. But for several years, research advances have led to the identification of new targets and the development of new treatments, including targeted therapy and immunotherapy. However, the development of a new drug is long (over 15 years) and expensive. Clinical trials, is the last stage of this development, necessary to obtain efficacy and safety data required for marketing authorization application. In serious diseases such as cancer, and in this example of advanced or metastatic cutaneous melanoma, it also represent an opportunity for patients to access earlier to innovative treatments and has an important place in the strategy for disease management. Nowadays, clinical research is globalized, and a real competition exists between countries to conduct clinical trials on their territory. If France is attractive in oncology, its general position remains tense in the competition. Steps are in place or underway to support the European and French clinical research, in order to continue to offer patients the opportunity to benefit as soon as possible to innovation, but also to generate data applicable to the French population and maintain an investment in the territory.
