Structural MRI findings in head injury at acute and sub acute stages

Abstract : Head injury is a leading cause of disability and death. Significant developments in imaging techniques have contributed to the knowledge of its pathophysiology. In this review, we focus on structural magnetic resonance imaging techniques. We discuss the interest of each sequence including Susceptibility Weighted Imaging, Diffusion Tensor Imaging and MR spectroscopy. The advantages and limitations of these various techniques in initial assessment, identification of brain abnormalities and prediction of outcome is covered.
