Prise en charge diagnostique des pathologies musculaires du sportif en médecine générale

Abstract : Various issues induce complexity within the diagnosis and treatment of muscle injuries in athletes: clinical signs may vary from one patient to another, involved pathologies are specific to sports, and the patients is in demand of a solution allowing a fast return to training. These elements may complicate the task of the general practitioner, and may cause unjustified medical imaging from a medical standpoint. In order to prevent excessive costs due to these prescriptions, this work was aimed at setting diagnosis strategies in order to enhance the treatment of muscle pain in athletes in primary care. These diagnostic strategies were built from patients consulting for muscle trauma in the Sports Medicine unit of the Public Hospital in Grenoble, France. They allow facilitating care of acute and chronic muscle traumas as well as overuse muscle injuries.
