L'hypnose dans le traitement du syndrome de l'intestin irritable : évaluation de l'amélioration de l'état général, du stress perçu, et des stratégies de coping : étude de terrain grenobloise

Abstract : Context: Drug treatments in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are disappointing. Aim: To evaluate the effects of hypnosis on the improvement of the general well being and quality of life of IBS patients compared to those with no hypnosis sessions. We also studied the effect of hypnosis on perceived stress and coping strategies. Method: We conducted a case-control retrospective non-interventional study. 90 patients with IBS followed at the Grenoble Hospital were contacted by phone. Two groups of patients were formed according to their treatment: one group treated by gut-directed hypnosis and another group "without hypnosis" treated by conventional medicines. An anonymous questionnaire was sent to each patient. The primary endpoint was measured only in patients in the hypnosis group through a questionnaire Ad Hoc comparing the condition of the patient before and after treatment with hypnosis. Secondary outcomes were measured by validated questionnaires comparing the two groups. Comparison tests between groups were significant for p ≤ 0.05. Results: 57 patients were included in the study: 31 in the hypnosis group and 26 in the non-hypnosis group. The mean of the total score of the Ad Hoc questionnaire measuring the main criterion was 43.5: there was an improvement in general well being after hypnotherapy. There is a significant improvement in perceived stress score (p=0.03) and the score of coping seeking social support (p=0.05) after hypnosis. Conclusion: Hypnosis has improved the condition of IBS patients, the perceived stress and coping focused on the search for social support.
