Prescription de la vitamine D en pédiatrie à propos d’une enquête auprès des médecins du Tarn

Abstract : Objective: Everyday there are new developments which show the role that Vitamin D plays, while the prescribing by doctors to children, remains haphazard. More than two years after of the appearance of the new recommendations by the S.F.P. as to the preventative treatment of vitamin D deficiency, we have agreed to verify the application of the recommendations amongst a group of general practitioners in the Tarn. Method: We have instigated a retrospective investigation by means of an on-line questionnaire, to assess the extent of the prescribing of vitamin D. This is aimed at the group of general practitioners and paedatricians in the Tarn. Results: We have found a wide disparity in the prescribing of vitamin D, according to age-range and also the scientific facts known by the doctor. While all the doctors prescribe vitamin D for new-born babies, less than 50% of GPs prescribe adequate vitamin D to adolescents. Less than 25% of GPs are aware of the latest recommendations of the S.F.P. Conclusion: Although much progress has been made in the prevention of rickets, the prescribing of vitamin D to adolescents must remain a concern for public health, all the more so because adolescence is a period of sustained growth in body weight and height.
