Le trouble déficitaire de l’attention / hyperactivité : vers une meilleure prise en charge en Europe et plus particulièrement en France

Abstract : ADHD is characterized by a deficiency of self-regulation processes that allow optimal adaptation of the behavior of the person to environment. This problem is due to a deficiency of dopamine and noradrenalin. The psychosocial environment also influences the natural history of the disorder. The health care of ADHD is twofold: psycho-educational treatment and specific drug treatment with methylphenidate. The coming over the market of the prolonged release forms of this molecule was followed by a significant increase in sales of the medicines and a sudden occurrence of adverse events related to the products. The EC submitted a referral to the CHMP under the Article 31 of Directive 2001/83/EC to assess the safety of treatment with methylphenidate. This European referral has: harmonized the product information to optimize the safe use of the medicines, has led studies to better understand the long-term adverse effects and has implemented a risk management plan including educational materials for prescribers. In France, these measures were completed by appropriate and supervised communication addressed directly to healthcare professionals to better inform them about ADHD and its treatment with methylphenidate as well as an information booklet for patients. These actions are intended to decrease the ADHD diagnosis period, to propose a specific treatment for every hyperactive and to prevent abuses. They all contribute to the same goal: to improve the social, family and scholar or professional integration of people with ADHD.
