Étude qualitative des déterminants de l’empathie chez les internes en médecine générale

Abstract : Objectives: Empathy is a necessary skill to residents in general practice. We aimed to identify determinants of GP residents’ clinical empathy.
Methods: It is a qualitative research with semi-directed interviews of 24 Parisian GP residents (12 men and 12 women). The interviews consist of a semi-structured part and a structured part.
Results: We have identified a first group of factors named antecedents such as : resident personnality (stable traits and variable traits), patient personnality, clininical situation features (organizational constraints, atmosphere of the unit and clinical situation features). The second identified group is about processes : identification and volition.
Conclusion: This study has been able to bring some improvments to the «antecedent» part of the Larson-Yao model and has gone deeper into some of the processes.
