Quand les corps se parlent : le groupe d’expression corporelle comme médiation psychomotrice auprès de personnes atteintes d’un syndrome démentiel

Abstract : A person suffering from dementia faces a deterioration of both his cognitive and physical performances. With the progression of the disease, the verbal expression abilities of the dementia patient decrease. Furthermore, a person suffering from dementia is highly likely to lose confidence in his body, which he tends to neglect as a result. Consequently, openness to and interaction with others become ever more difficult. This paper demonstrates how a body self-expression group session based on nonverbal communication contributes to maintaining and restoring the interpersonal capacities of a person suffering from dementia.
