Évaluation du rapport bénéfice/risque du méthylphénidate

Abstract : Methylphenidate hydrochloride is authorized in France since 1996 in Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD) for children aged of 6 and older ; in 2000 the authorization was extended to narcolepsy with or without cataplexy, in case of inefficacity of modafinil for adults and children aged of 6 and more. Actually, many studies are underlying an efficacy of methylphenidate in other indications: in palliative care for cancer patients, in case of rebel depression and after traumatic brain injury. In a first part, properties of methylphenidate and its indications authorized and during clinical trials are described. The second part present the therapeutics interest of methylphenidate for the different indications proposed. The last part of this work concern the difficulties encountered when initializing a treatment with methylphenidate. Difficulty of diagnostic, side effects, addiction and abuse potential are detailed.
