Dépistage des atrésies de l’œsophage en salle de naissance : quelles sont les pratiques des sages-femmes ?

Abstract : Introduction: Currently, no consensus has been established regarding neonatal oesophageal atresia screening. The goal of this study is to evaluate whether midwives practice this test as a systematic or targeted screening. Method: Our study is transverse, descriptive and multicentre, performed in 9 maternity wards from Ile-de-France, conducted between October 1st, 2014 and December 31st, 2014. It is based on questionnaires intended for hospital midwives. Results: 60.6% of midwives perform a targeted screening for oesophageal atresia, whereas 30.6% prefer a systematic screening. Those practices are unequal according to maternity care level, wards into one level, and midwives into one ward. Factors such as each maternity ward’s recommendations influence those practices. Conclusion: An agreement on the recommendations would enable standardizing midwives practices. However, the generalization of a targeted screening would require an enhancement of midwives knowledge concerning oesophageal atresia signs.
