Methodology: Prospective study for which every midwife who have worked into Haute Normandy's maternity hospital, private or public, at least six months with non-conventional work rhythms during the last two years; have been invited to answer anonymous questionnaire. Results and discussion : Of the 199 midwives who responded, 99% practiced atypical hours. While 95% of midwives believe to be quite good or very good health ; 72% have the feeling of being disturbed or displaced from the day/night rhythm; 77% admit having chronic sleep debt, and 68,3% have experienced changes in their ability to work unusual work rhythms since the beginning of their careers. More over 79% think their work has a bad influence on their health, and 23% have already declared a work accident, but only 23% said has been informed of the risks by preventive medicine. Conclusion: The consequences of atypical work hours tend to be felt on the health of the midwife. The means of improvement and prevention seems to be under applied by the midwives, but essentially due to a lack of information.
