Médicaments antiviraux spécifiques de la grippe pendant la grippe A (H1N1) 2009 : perception et utilisation des médecins généralistes français

Abstract : Vaccination is the most effective preventive measure against influenza. However the use of neuraminidase inhibitors (NAI), antiviral drugs for influenza, is disputed. The subject of this study was to describe predictors of NAI’s prescriptions by general practitioners (GPS) during the pandemic A(H1N1)2009. A web-survey has been conducted from July 15 to September 15, 2010 Among a random sample of French GPs. Among the 161 respondents, only 6% reported that they have “often” prescribed NAI during pandemic. 69% declared that they have prescribed them “time to time”. Main GPs’ objectives were to limit the risk of complications and to reduce the duration of symptoms. 25% of GPs have reported that they never have prescribed NAI during pandemic. Main barriers were an estimated lack of efficacy (64%) and an unfavourable benefit/risk balance (52%). The main predictor of NAI’s prescription during pandemic was the prescription of NAI during seasonal influenza periods (OR=3,23 [95% IC 1,3-8,8]). In order to improve NAI’s prescription during pandemic outbreak, it’s necessary to deepen our knowledge regarding NAI, specifically in ambulatory setting during seasonal influenza.
