Jouons ensemble camarade ! Le groupe capoeira comme approche psychomotrice pour des jeunes déficients intellectuels

Abstract : Capoeira is a brazilian martial art whose exact origin is unclear. Combining fighting and dancing, it is a game practiced to the rythm of the instruments played by the participants. As part of my internship in a medical-educational institute, I had the opportunity to conduct a capoeira workshop with three young people with mild to moderated intellectual disabilities. Their main difficulties are balance and coordination, language and the construction of their body image. Throughout the sessions, we approached various aspects of capoeira : we introduiced the basic steps and different kicks and dodges. Besides, we have musical moments, where we play the percussion and sing. Capoeira can be seen as a psychomotor approach, which combines the therapeutic and rehabilitative aspects. Indeed, it involves balance and coordination, a sense of rhythm, nonverbal communication and expressiveness. All of that in a group situation. In thus, it activates the body image, through the eyes of the other members. It is a complete practice that offers many prospects.
