Le statut vaccinal des étudiants admis en deuxième année de médecine à l’Université de Bordeaux en 2014/2015 : impact de l’Espace Santé Etudiants pour la mise à jour de leur couverture vaccinale

Abstract : Introduction: Medical Students are subject to the same obligations as healthcare workers once they arrive in their second year. During this year, they complete a nursing internship at the hospital. In order to anticipate their vaccination coverage (VC) updating, they are “summoned” during their “Paces” to the “Espace Santé Étudiants” (ESE) for a preventative consultation. The objectives of this work was to describe the VC of medical students who are admitted in the second year (L2) in 2014/2015 in Bordeaux for the required and recommended vaccinations, as well as studies the ESE impact in the VC updating thereafter. Population and Method: It was a longitudinal study on 371 admitted medical students in the second year in 2014/2015 in Bordeaux. The data was collected with immunization sheets filled during the second year enrolment and the possible medical computerised files in the ESE. Almost all students were in “Paces” in Bordeaux, the others were from “Paces” in Polynesia or from “Gateway”. Results: The VC, at the admission in L2, were determined for the dTP (100%), tuberculosis (91,4%) and the hepatitis B (63,1%). Therefore, the VC for all mandatory vaccines is at 59,6% at the beginning of second year. With the reminders and consultations proposed by ESE, the VC for the mandatory vaccinations reached 94,6% at the end of second year. The results are detailed according to the gender and the use of ESE in “Paces” and in L2. The VC for recommended vaccinations such as pertussis, chickenpox and MMR vaccine is also displayed. Conclusion: The VC for all mandatory vaccines at the beginning of second year is insufficient. However, the ESE has contributed to the improvement of the VC during the second year. Thus making it a major actor in the vaccination of the students at the beginning of their medical career. These efforts need to be updated in each academic year, in close collaboration with the university education services.
