Mécanismes et conséquences des confusions lors de cueillettes de plantes sauvages : une approche transdisciplinaire

Abstract : Wild plants gathering is becoming more and more widespread, far from the marker of poverty it represented in the past. Practices and transmission means of knowledge are being modified. There are very few studies on this evolution, and no one refers to plants identification criteria. In the same time, wild plants create some distrust for many people. A transdisciplinary analysis of misidentification risks during wild plants gathering seemed relevant in this context. This work was based on plants poisoning cases listed by the Lyon poisoning centre between 2010 and 2014, in an food context. In parallel, an ethnobotanical investigation on motivations for gathering and plants identification criteria has been conducted with gatherers and teachers near Grenoble. The results from the poisoning centre show that poisonings due to plant misidentification are increasing, even if they represent less than 0,3% of listed cases, of which only 10% need a hospitalization. The interviews show that the gatherers are careful and that poisoning cases remain rare. They also show that the public interested in wild plants is very heterogeneous. As a conclusion, we can suppose that gatherers who get poisoned are less knowledgeable and aware of misidentification risk that the ones who have been interviewed. An investigation leads beside people calling the poisoning centres would fully document the arisen of poisoning cases due to plant misidentification, in order to propose adapted tools to prevent them.
