Le suivi des vaccinations chez les enfants de médecins généralistes : étude pilote

Abstract : Introduction : Medical monitoring of physicians’ children has never been recommended in France. In addition, few studies compare the monitoring results of physicians’ children when performed by a physician family member with the monitoring performed by another doctor. Study goal : The goal of this thesis is to put forward a study protocol for studying these two types of monitoring, based on the immunization schedule. A pilot study was conducted to identify the most appropriate methodology. Methods : The study population comprised children of general practitioners working in Gironde and born from 1995 to 2015 included. The doctors were contacted by mail after being randomly picked out of the Gironde Sickness Insurance Primary Fund (CPAM) website’s database as well as from a professional network. The studied health indicator concerns vaccines in France, taken from the vaccine reference calendar based on the age of the child. A delay indicator was created out of the injection delay and the number of late injections. A self-administered questionnaire and vaccination pages of children's health records were collected for each child. Findings : Among the questionnaires sent, 2% of replies were usable (n = 1), against 86% when using the professional network (n = 12). A total of 23 children were included with an average age of 12.6 years, this included 61% of boys. No statistical tests were done as a consequence of the very small size of this pilot study. The data collection methods and the self-questionnaire were improved thanks to the results obtained. Discussion-Conclusion : This pilot study enabled to refine the methodology and propose a finalized protocol, especially on the choice of the study population, inclusion criteria, the study period, the choice of health indicators, taking into account confounders and statistical analysis.
